I am Jo Atkinson and will be helping Jackie with the programme. I am a Vice-President of the club, sit on the coaching and rowing committee’s and the main policy committee.
I was over 30 when I started rowing and was an elite sculler within a year of my first try in a boat, and world champion within two years. I came into rowing ‘by accident’ in 1990, when I tried to enter a pub and club crew with my squash playing team mates and found we were a month too late!! So stayed to try rowing for the summer and have been here ever since! The ‘by accident’ has been a common theme in my rowing and coaching career – I even turned up to an event a day early!!
I have a silver level coaching award and have coached juniors, seniors and veterans, men and women from recreational to international standard and think rowing is a great sport for anyone,
As anyone will tell you – I am the loud one who likes trying out novel types of training programmes on their athletes -so if you join the club after the Learn to Row watch out!
